Kenpo Creed: I come to you with only Karate, empty hands. I have no weapons, but if I should be forced to defend myself, my principles, or my honor, should it be a matter of life or death, right or wrong, then here are my weapons; Karate, my empty hands. ![]() The emblem of the Kenpo Karate Association of America and the International Kenpo Karate Association. Parker Kenpo is a karate/self-defense system developed by Ed Parker. In Parker Kenpo, students learn techniques and forms to advance their knowledge of Kenpo and their belt ranking. The belt rank is as follows: The beginner has a white belt. 10 techniques must be learned to obtain a yellow belt. 24 techniques are needed to obtain an orange belt and all subsequent belts. The subsequent belts are (in order) purple, blue, green, 3 degrees of brown, and 10 degrees of black. In testing for a belt, students must demonstrate the techniques required to obtain that belt, and the techniques required to obtain all previous belts. For example, a student testing for a blue belt would have to demonstrate all of the techniques for the blue, purple, orange and yellow belts. I have been taking classes at the A. Academy of Self Defense in Evergreen Park, IL for about 3 months. My current rank is: Yellow Belt |
